Last Friday, I blogged on the direct action that Australia Rising Tide did at the Bayswater coal fired power station in New South Wales. The action resulted in over 25 arrests, four of which locked themselves to the coal conveyor belt.
Since then, Aussies have done 3 more direct actions against coal fired power plants around the country.
Hazelwood power plant in Victoria
Tarong power plant in Queensland
And the Collie plant in Western Australia
Some of you may know that Australia holds a special place in my heart. A few years ago, I spent three and half months traveling there, doing non-violent direct action trainings and organizing with Australian anti-war and environmental activists only to get jailed and kicked out by the government (not allowed to return). I have many friends and loved ones down there that are some of the best activists I know. When I see Aussies lead the way in direct action against King Coal down under it warms my heart and reminds me what a truly global movement we are.
