Earlier this afternoon, Reverend Billy and the Church of Life After Shopping paid a visit to the Manhattan office of UBS.
Over the past two years, some of the biggest banks in the United States have developed statements regarding mountaintop removal coal mining, and started to move away from financing the practice. UBS, a Swiss bank, not only has no MTR policy statement, but they have emerged as one of the biggest financiers of mountaintop removal mining.
UBS has a responsibility to catch up with their financial sector peers and stop bankrolling mountaintop removal in Appalachia. I bet the Swiss people would be upset if a U.S. bank started blowing up the Alps!
