Big Coal has big plans for the West.
Coal companies are already digging out tens of millions of tons of coal from the ground in Wyoming and Montana. Not only do they want to continue to feed coal-fired power plants in the U.S. with their filthy energy, but they also want to grow their profit margins by exporting it to Asian markets. And the quickest way from Point A to Point B is via ports along the Pacific Northwest coastline.
Seems like a no-brainer if you are sitting in Ambre Energy, Arch Coal or Peabody Energy‘s cozy boardrooms. Too bad for them, there are large progressive and environmentally conscious populations in those states that have a difference of opinion with them on this matter.
On Feb. 23, RAN will be teaming up with some of the folks from Peaceful Uprising in Salt Lake City to carry this message to the front door of Ambre Energy’s North American offices.
Ambre has received permits from the Cowlitz Count board to begin construction on a new coal port terminal in Longview, Washington. They want to develop the western states even more into an extraction zone and transportation corridor. We’ll be there to tell them that we’re not going down without a fight.
If you are in Salt Lake City on Feb. 23rd, come join us for a lively protest against coal exports.
