Come one, come all: RAN and local Bay Area music blog Wiretap Music are proud to present a concert to benefit the spiritual encampment at Glen Cove on Thursday, June 23rd. We have an incredible lineup of local bands, including Bad Bibles, James & Evander, Fiveng, and Becky White and the Secret Mission. There will also be a photo booth and speakers offering updates and background on this important and quickly evolving Bay Area issue.
RSVP for the benefit to protect Glen Cove on Facebook.
Known as Sogorea Te to Native Americans, Glen Cove is near Vallejo, CA and has been used as a burial ground and sacred site by several Native tribes for over 3,000 years (more info at ProtectGlenCove.org). Now the city of Vallejo and the Greater Vallejo Recreation District want to turn Glen Cove into a “fully featured” park with bathrooms, parking lots, and more “improvements.”
Local Native tribes have been outspoken in their opposition to the plans, but the city wants to move ahead anyway. The brave folks at the spiritual encampment have put themselves in between the bulldozers and this sacred site in order to stop construction from moving forward, and they need all the support they can get.
The pressure from the growing movement to protect Glen Cove is working: A nonprofit called San Francisco Bay Trail Project recently announced that it was suspending a $200,000 grant for the project. We need to keep the momentum going.
We’ll be charging on a $5-20 sliding scale for admission to the benefit, with all proceeds going to support the spiritual encampment at Glen Cove. But of course there are many more ways you can help. Come on out next Thursday to find out how you can get involved.
