Sticker products that contain palm oil

Why stickering, why now?

Stickering is the next step in an ongoing campaign to put pressure on companies that use palm oil. First, we asked you to identify products that contain palm oil. Hundreds of you went to your grocery stores and shared your findings with us. Then, we sent letters to all those companies—over 300 of them—asking them to join us and put pressure on ADM, Bunge and Cargill to end rainforest destruction and put the brakes on climate change. Now, let’s show these companies that their customers are willing to take action to keep rainforest destruction palm oil out of our products.

How can you help?

It’s really easy.

  1. Grab your friends, and go to a supermarket or convenience store near you.
  2. Stick it to palm oil! Put your stickers on the products that contain "palm oil", "palm kernel oil", "palm fruit oil" or "palmitate". Here's a list of companies known to use palm oil.
  3. Report Back! Take pictures of yourself with your stickered products, and send them to us! Just email your pictures and a brief description of your action and we’ll post them to our webpage.

Helpful Hints

Will you get in trouble?

Possibly, but it’s unlikely. The legality of the stickering depends exactly on where you are placing the stickers, how easy they are to peel off, and the laws of your region. Generally, we have been advised by our lawyers that it’s no big deal. It’s much more likely that you may irritate the store owner. Just let the store owner know what you’re doing and stop if they tell you to and go to another store.

  • Go to a supermarket or convenience store other than the one you normally go to. That way, if you do irritate a manager, it won’t affect your regular shopping.
  • Be polite. If you are stopped, just explain why you are there. If they ask you to leave the store, agree politely and leave.
  • Let us know what happens. If you do have any more serious problems, send us an email, or call 415.659.0543 and we’ll give you some more advice.

Where should you place the stickers?

Here's a list of companies that we found have the most palm oil products for sale.

We want you to put stickers on products that contain palm oil; that way we make as much impact as possible on the companies using palm oil. But if you want to put a sticker or two on your school books, etc, it’s fine by us.

Crowd?

It’s best to go with friends so you can cover more products. If you are worried about attracting attention by bringing a crowd, then you can always split up in the store. There are enough products with palm oil for everyone!
