The RYSE Council

Hey RAN/RYSE activistas!

Have you ever wanted to get more involved with RAN and didn’t quite know how? Wanted to take your leadership skills and passion to the next level? Then you should apply for the RYSE Council! The RYSE Council is a ten member body of youth identified activists, who will gain leadership and organizing skills while guiding the development of the RYSE network! As the RAN college chapters and RYSE converge into an even better youth network, the RYSE council will be there to provide youth leadership. Help to develop a creative, innovative and transformative youth movement for the forests, the climate and social justice!

RYSE supports a network of youth activists in middle and high schools, college campuses and communities that works to protect the Earth and support human rights through education, corporate campaigning, grassroots organizing, and nonviolent direct action.

RYSE Council activities:

  • Decide the direction, vision and goals for the RYSE network
  • Work closely with the Youth Organizer to coordinate the RYSE network
  • Plan RYSE gatherings and train at them!
  • Provide direction and input on RYSE materials such as t-shirts, brochures, training materials, etc
  • Develop outreach plans for RYSE and engage with online organizing through RYSE website, facebook, myspace etc.
  • Fundraise for the RYSE network
  • Serve on the committee that selects new RYSE Council members

RYSE Council commitments:

  • Commit a minimum of 10-15 hours per month to RYSE
  • Attend two in person meetings each year
  • Participate in one working group (outreach, fundraising, a specific campaign we’re working on, etc.)
  • Attend monthly or bi-weekly conference calls
  • Commit to being an active member for a year
  • Fundraise for RYSE!

RYSE Council benefits:

  • Access to RAN resources and trainings

  • Work one on one with RAN staff and youth leaders
  • Guide a super exciting youth network for the forests, the climate and social justice!

Logistics:

Applications are due July 11 and we will announce the initial Council members on July 16 (it’s possible that not all 10 positions will be filled in the first round) and have our first RYSE Council call the week of July 21-25th! For this initial round of applications RAN staff will be selecting members.
