Auto Show Action!

Auto Shows are the most important events every year for the auto industry. The LA Auto Show, Detroit Auto Show, New York Auto Show, and many many more are where automakers showcase their latest concept cars, the press write their analysis of the industry, and millions of people go to see what is on the market. These are the three groups who we need to get our message out to - so auto shows can be the perfect place to speak out against oil addiction!

There are many action options for these events--from holding an Oil Addicts Anonymous meeting to staging a visit from the Oil Enforcement Agency.  So, find the auto show closest to you, download the action packet, and start brainstorming.

New York Auto Show, April 2007

On the heels of the Supreme Court’s monumental decision that global warming tailpipe emissions are indeed a pollutant, Freedom from Oil activists stepped it up a notch. During the pre-event media day at the New York Auto Show, two climbers unfurled a dramatic 20-foot banner inside the Javits Convention Center challenging Toyota to become a true environmental leader. The banner subverts Toyota’s gas guzzling Tundra advertising blitz with a picture of the truck driving over a globe with the tagline, “Toyota: The Truck That’s Changing the Climate.”

Los Angeles Auto Show, Dec 2006

We staged a series of actions to expose the industry’s lack of commitment to fuel efficiency and alternative, oil-free transportation.  Our hijincks  included an Oil Addicts Anonymous meeting, a Greenwash Car Wash, an Oil Enforcement Agency impounding of a huge Ford Expedition XXL, and the ultimate intervention – crashing the CEO of General Motors Rick Wagoner’s keynote press speech. Check out video and photos from all the actions.
