Our Rainforests in the Classroom program educates and inspires students to take an active role in protecting the Earth. A network of over 5,000 teachers receives our monthly email newsletter, which provides opportunities for classrooms to get involved and highlights how students and teachers are learning about the environment and helping to make a difference. Our poetry, poster and letter drives and contests are designed to encourage decision-makers to think about how their actions will affect future generations. We also profile the activities of particularly active kids and classrooms to provide ideas and inspiration for taking Earth-friendly actions.
If you sign up for our newsletter, you can dowload our free curriculum supplement Rainforests Forever!, for grades 3-6 that introduces easy and important ways to save the rainforests while exploring the connections between rainforests and our daily lives, as well as lesson plan ideas and various factsheets.
We also have Forest Family Forever!, the award-winning animated feature including the voices of Ed Asner (Lou Grant; JFK) and Jake Richardson (Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves; Richie Rich) and music by Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead; Planet Drum). Forest Family Forever! tells the story of a thousand year old grandfather tree who teaches his grandson Sappy about the wonders of the rainforests and what kids can do to save them. It was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Gold Special Jury Award for Children’s Education and Instruction from the Worldfest Houston Film and Video Awards in 2001
For kids we have the Kids Action Team. Upcoming actions can be found on RainforestHeroes.com. Teachers and students from across the globe have utilized the Rainforests in the Classroom program and RainforestHeroes.com to send over 10,000 letters and posters to protect the Earth, raise over $250,000 to support of our Protect-an-Acre Fund, and in some cases, even transforming their classrooms into rainforests!
We have recently launched a program for middle and high school students and teachers called RYSE (RAN Youth Sustaining the Earth). You can sign up at this website to join network and receive an e-newsletter for youth.
