Fund the Future

Trillions of dollars flow through Wall Street banks. In our modern economy, profit is all that matters; concerns for the environmental and social impacts of investments come second if they come at all. But a sustainable economy fosters intact, healthy, vibrant ecosystems and communities. It does not deplete and exploit them for the sake of the economic bottom line. It's time to reconcile economy with ecology and embrace a system that both creates profits and benefits communities. It's time to Fund the Future.

Prioritizing clean, renewable energy will provide far greater benefits to our climate, environment, communities, jobs and economy than continuing to invest in outdated and harmful fossil fuels.

Unfortunately, despite their “green” marketing campaigns, big banks such as Citi and Bank of America are investing billions of dollars in dirty fossil fuel development while holding back the capital needed for clean energy to flourish. The public is demanding clean energy, the technology is ready, and our climate needs us to act now.

Check out our fact sheet on “Greening The Grid,” an overview of how energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy are the the future.

Support a Clean Energy Future

  1. Prioritize financing and investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy infrastructures in order to accelerate a transition away from all fossil fuel and non-renewable energy sources.
  2. Support power and utilities companies in decommissioning the dirtiest coal plants and in developing a strategy for deep reductions in coal use and towards a just transition for labor and coal-dependent communities.
  3. Actively support federal legislation that enacts strong carbon regulations in the form of a carbon tax and/or caps with auction across all industries.
